HOW TO REFER PATIENTS WITH HCC
HOW TO REFER PATIENTS WITH HCC
The instructions by the Department of Health of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia establishes that patients with liver cancer diagnosed in the area of Barcelona under the control of the Hospital Clínic as well as those diagnosed in Vic and in the Vallès Oriental are referred to the BCLC. Patients from other areas in Catalonia or from Spain can also be referred if fulfilling the administrative process or through the “Second Opinion Option” that has been implemented for this purpose at the Customer Service Units in every hospital. Follow the next link to know how to deal with it: http://cancer.gencat.cat/ca/ciutadans/segona-opinio/

Finally, the BCLC, together with the Centre for Biomedical Research in Liver and Digestive Diseases (CIBEREHD), has developed a web based platform for second opinions from physicians to the BCLC (e-CATCH). This system allows the upload of a summary of the medical record and of the different image assessments of a patient, and poses questions related to diagnosis and/or management. Confidentiality of the information sent is ensured by encryptation and the BCLC Faculty answer based on evidence based data is delivered in less than 1 week. The process is free for physicians in charge of patients within the National Health System while a fee is requested for those outside this boundary.
